What is the Method?

The Solution Method is a brain-based program that offers clinicians an innovative and powerful tool for treating a range of stress-related problems including obesity, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. The method uses developmental skills training (DST) to retrain the brain to decrease the frequency and duration of the allostatic response and, in combination with changes in lifestyle, to decrease allostatic load. Brief introductory courses (4 or 8 weeks) are symptom-specific (weight, substance abuse, relationships, stress, depression/anxiety) and most participants stay in the long-term training for two years, completing the entire course of six Solution Kits. The clinical goal is a Solution: within the limits of genetics and circumstance, to experience freedom from the whole range of common excesses and an abundance of life’s developmental rewards: integration, balance, sanctuary, intimacy, vibrancy and spirituality.

Who Becomes Solution Providers?

Health professionals who are licensed, certified or registered in their discipline or the equivalent become Solution Providers. Most have found that other paradigms and therapies have lacked effectiveness and they want their clients to experience improved outcomes. They have an interdisciplinary orientation and enjoy educating participants and conducting groups. They have strong skills in the method and in creating a therapeutic relationship and value and enjoy a whole community of support, including annual retreats, referrals from our group finder, marketing and promotional material and consultation and advanced training.

How to Refer to the Solution:

We welcome all participants into the training who can participate safely and effectively. Some special training options are available for participants who are at high medical or psychosocial risk.

Options for referring your client to Solution Training include recommending The Pathway, the classic book on the method, referring them to www.thepathway.org.
